A Couple of Debates

If someone told me it has been 3 weeks, a month, or even a semester since the last post - which was only last week - I would believe them. It has been so busy this past week, with a multitude of tests, notes, and homework. However, I can say that I am enjoying it and that I missed this bustle over the summer.

This week, as the title insinuates, has had me debating different types of anesthesia. I am also debating my topic for ISM.

ISM

This week in ISM has been research intensive. In the last week, I have researched 3 papers, 2 of which related to anesthesiology. I read a very interesting article on spinal vs. general anesthesia in infants and toddlers, and I did my first research assessment on it. I learnt that spinal anesthesia is becoming increasingly common, and that it has less risk and negative side effects. Due to this, I support the shift from general to spinal anesthesia as the norm. However, I do understand that I have read only one article on this topic, and that I may not have all of the facts.

Topic

This article, combined with other outside influences, is making me reconsider my topic for ISM. Instead of anesthesiology, with the sub-specialty of pain management, I might research pediatric anesthesiology. I know that there are frequent issues with getting parents to follow medical orders (fasting before surgery), which have sad consequences.

Final product

Maybe I could make my final product a pamphlet on before and after care for pediatric surgeries.

Thank you for reading!
