After all of the preparation (and anxiety), I am happy to say that the Professional Symposium went smoothly (It helps that I was only had to attend one class on Thursday, and all my work was up to date).
New Ideas
One of my favorite aspects about the symposium was that we got to learn how to network. I got 5 people's contact information, and I hope that I will gain more knowledge from them. I was able to practice asking questions and answering questions without feeling embarrassed or awkward, which is a fairly common occurrence.
Medical Topics
Additionally, I learnt tips from past ISM students who focused on a medical profession. One of the most common things I heard was to persevere while searching for a mentor. Learning that all of the past students had mentors gave a sense of relief because I have been worrying about finding a mentor because many hospitals do not allow high school students.
Since I have been thinking about making a pamphlet for my final product and/or original work, I paid special attention when the topic of final products came up. I saw that many created pamphlets, and that they were accepted. This gives me more certainty in creating a pamphlet for the final product.
What I Need For Future Events
On Thursday, my outfit was appropriate. I should buy new boots, however, because they looked scuffed. Also, I should buy a portfolio to contain my resumes and a notepad, as it looks more professional than a plastic folder.
Overall, the Business Symposium was a great experience. I am even more excited for the rest of the year, and am grateful for the opportunity ISM has afforded me.
